How to Actually Get a Table at Alchemist

Practical notes on booking, timing, price and what to expect on the night — based on my own reservation and a lot of comparing notes with other guests.

The single most useful thing I can tell you about booking Alchemist is: don't wait. Reservations open on a rolling basis and popular months — especially weekends in spring and summer — can fill within days. My own table, for a Thursday in May, was booked in January.

Bookings run directly through the restaurant's own official website, not through this blog and not through any third party I'd recommend trusting with your card details. I'm not affiliated with Alchemist and I don't sell or broker reservations — if a site other than the restaurant's own domain is asking you to pay a booking fee for a table here, be cautious.

Budget for a genuinely significant evening out. Between the tasting menu and a pairing, expect a bill well above what most Copenhagen restaurants charge, even by fine-dining standards in a city with an unusually high concentration of Michelin stars. If cost is a concern, ask about the pairing options when you book rather than defaulting to the most expensive one — both the wine and non-alcoholic pairings are built with real care.

Set aside the whole evening. The experience runs long — commonly four to six hours — and it isn't the kind of dinner you can slot in before another plan. I'd also gently suggest not scheduling anything demanding for the following morning; it's a lot of food, and a late finish.

Finally: mention dietary restrictions and any preference for the alcoholic or non-alcoholic pairing when you book, not on arrival. From what I could tell, the kitchen adapts a huge amount of the menu around individual guests, and giving them notice in advance makes that easier.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book Alchemist?

As early as possible. Reservations open on a rolling basis, and popular months, especially weekends in spring and summer, can fill within days. My own table was booked about four months ahead.

Where do I actually book a table?

Only through the restaurant's own official website. This blog is not affiliated with Alchemist and does not sell or broker reservations.

How much should I budget?

Expect a bill well above most Copenhagen restaurants, even by fine-dining standards, once a tasting menu and pairing are included.

How long does the evening last?

Commonly four to six hours across several rooms, so it's worth avoiding demanding plans the next morning.

Can I request a non-alcoholic pairing?

Yes. Mention it when you book rather than on arrival, so the team has time to build the non-alcoholic sequence properly.
